Narrabri Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan

Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan

Local councils under the NSW Government’s Floodplain Management Program are required to develop a Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan.  Council has received financial support from the NSW State Floodplain Management program managed by the Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) to undertake a flood investigation of Narrabri.

Narrabri Shire Council has undertaken a comprehensive floodplain study for the township of Narrabri. The results will come as no surprise to local residents, major flooding of the Namoi floodplain would have significant impacts. The study determined which land has the potential to be affected by flooding, and investigated possible mitigation measures to reduce and eliminate the negative impacts that flooding can have on the Narrabri community. Council is requesting your input on the Draft Narrabri Floodplain Study and Plan that was undertaken by an independent water consultant WRM Water & Environment Pty Ltd.

You can have your say on each of the proposed mitigation measures by clicking the links associated with each one on the website.  In addition, we also encourage you to watch the water hydrologist explanation of the study Water Hydrologist discussing the Study and findings and to read the report and FAQs.  Alternatively you can find out more by attending a community information session.  Please click the following link for the Crossing Theatre Evening Information Sessions 18th or 19th October or  Narrabri Aquatic Multi Purpose Room- Breakfast Information Sessions 19th or 20th October.  Please note, it is important that you make a submission if you want your voice to count.
